The Myanmar delegation led by U Aung Myo Myint, Myanmar Permanent Representative to ASEAN, represented SOM Leader of Myanmar at the ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) held on 3rd September 2023 at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The meeting was chaired by H.E. Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, SOM Leader of Indonesia and attended by the SOM Leaders and representatives from the ASEAN Member States as well as the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat. The delegation from Timor-Leste also joined the meeting as an observer.
The ASEAN Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) discussed the priorities of Chair Indonesia in 2023, the follow-up to the recommendations on the strengthening ASEAN’s capacity and institutional effectiveness, Leaders’ documents on ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth, matters related to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), ASEAN’s external relations and preparations of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related Summits.
During the meeting, Myanmar Permanent Representative U Aung Myo Myint emphasized that the documents and reports prepared by ASEAN and its relevant working groups should follow the principles outlined in the ASEAN Charter. He also shared Myanmar’s positions and views on other different agendas. He also attended the 10th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (10/2023 CPR) which was held on 2nd September 2023.
